Florida Full-time RV Diary
Cape
Canaveral, Florida - June 2005
Travel Info - East coast of Florida, one
hour east of Orlando. Only two private RV parks left for short-term rentals. Cruise
ship and shipping port, great beach - no cars allowed, fishing pier, Radisson
Resort at the Port with hot tub in rooms, restaurants including Thai Thai, Grills,
and Taste of Goa - Indian gourmet with great lunch buffet for $6.99.
Jason's
thoughts - One of the best places in America to live. Great fun at the Cocoa
Beach Pier, Coconuts on the Beach, and nightlife at Grills at the port. Starting
mileage = 42,355.
Kelly's thoughts - Fun surfing
even when it is small, but then again, Florida is the small wave capital of the
world.
Canaveral National Seashore, Playalinda
Beach, Florida - July 2005
Travel Info - just north of Cape Canaveral
in Titusville. The beach is run by the federal government, $5 per car. Nude
beach, clothing advisory, sea turtles in ocean and nests on beach every 10
feet.
Jason's thoughts - If you have never sunbathed,
swam, and played nude all day in complete privacy on a pristine beach with your
wife then you don't know what you are missing. Playalinda is full of wildlife
such as sea turtles, birds, fish, dolphins, and manatees too. Playalinda is romantic
and private without ever leaving the country. WARNING! Do NOT visit without reading
the Playalinda Beach
page first!
Private Joke - Kelly is my little coral maker.
Kelly's thoughts - I don't really like tan lines.

New
Smyrna Beach, Florida - July 2005
Travel Info - East coast of Florida,
south of Daytona Beach
Drive on beach $5 per car, small town feel, nice beaches,
restaurant to include are Mon Delice, a French bakery on Hwy. 44, and Manny's
Beachside Pizza - their large Greek salad will feed a family of six.
Jason's
thoughts - One of the coolest small beach towns in America. Still relatively
affordable and great little oceanfront bars where you can have a refreshment and
swim in the pool without paying for a hotel room. Very low key, very casual.
Kelly's thoughts - Really enjoy the large span of beach
at low tide. The hard packed sand makes it great to run on. I like the fact that
you can just walk up to a condo or hotel and use their outside shower to cool
off and use their pool. Want to see some cool rabbit
pictures? Daytona
Beach, Florida - July 2005
Travel Info - East coast of Florida. Drive
car on beach $5, be careful not to get stuck in the sugar sand. Rent floats, four-wheelers,
umbrellas and lounge chairs. Parasailing available. Food services on the beach.
Gene's Steakhouse is a must.
Jason's thoughts - Great
walking on super-wide beach. Fun to drive and park on the beach. Free access to
ocean front pools.
Kelly's thoughts - This
beach gets crowded but because of the large beach area it doesn't feel so congested.
There is never a lack of interesting people to see here. Also, great to run on.
We also explored other South Florida beaches
for those interested.
Salt Springs, Ocala National Forest, Florida -
July 2005
Travel Info - Located northwest of Orlando off I-75. Elite Resorts
has left an abundance of trees around each RV site and all over the park which
is most needed and appreciated being in the sunshine state. Hot tub, adult pool,
children's pool, and kiddie pool, tennis, fishing, boating, jet skiing, kayaking.
Water aerobics available every morning. Social complex serves coffee, tea, and
water free all day every day. Also available from the kitchen for a nominal fee
are hamburgers, hot dogs, and other lunch items. Ice cream and sno cones available
at pool. Off road biking and hiking in woods on Florida National Scenic Trail.
Jason's thoughts - Saw bear tracks on trail. While
kayaking saw a huge alligator with distended stomach so big he could barely make
himself sink because he would bob and roll back to the surface 20 feet from our
kayak. The Elite Resort is one of the best RV resorts I have ever been to, completely
shaded. Kelly and I had lots of time to enjoy the huge hot tub during the afternoon
rains, then jump in the pools, then bike back to the RV. Loved the fireworks over
the lake on July 4th, good cheap angus burgers, and wildlife.
Kelly's
thoughts - I love the original Florida feel of this park. Being able to look
over the lake while swimming in the pool and in the hot tub was so relaxing. Biking
on the Trail was fabulous as long as you have someone riding in front of you knocking
the spider webs out of the way, thanks Jason. Some of the trail was through brush
and other parts through pine trees. Click
