Blue Ridge Parkway. For a slightly shorter American road trip, covering a modest 469 miles, the Blue Ridge Parkway is the road trip to take for those who enjoy sweeping panoramas and beautiful natural scenery. Starting off in the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, the parkway then heads south west to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The whole route can be done in around a week, and provides great opportunities for outdoorsy sorts, with stop offs at great places like Boone, North Carolina which is a central base for various activities like canoeing and hiking.

Pacific Coast Highway in California is sweet indeed. For those who love the sea, the pacific coast highway is true to its name and hugs the western coast of the US for almost the entire route. Stretching down from the Olympic National Park in Washington to the beaches of Southern California, this western route takes in many of the country's great sights whilst remaining steeped in natural wonders like redwood forests, temperate rainforests, and even near-desert. With the opportunity to stop off at key American cities like Seattle, San Francisco and Portland, this beautifully scenic route offers something to please every traveler.

Route 66 runs through some of my favorite road trip states. This most famous American road trip, brings in tourists from all over, route 66 runs from Los Angeles to Chicago spanning a total of just under 2,500 miles and crossing through 8 states. Taking in sights along the way like California's sunny beaches, the Grand Canyon and old Native American communities, this road trip has more sights on offer than you could hope for. Made iconic by musicians and writers alike, if you're after a road trip with a powerful history, route 66 could be the best way for you to rediscover the road trip.
