Zion National Park Pa'rus
Hike
By far, this is the easiest trail in Zion. It is wide-paved
trail with only 50 feet of elevation. The trail goes through South Zion Canyon
between 2,000-foot-high sandstone walls. The trailhead is across the street from
the Visitor's Center going through South Campground and along the Virgin River
to Canyon Junction which is where Zion-Mount Carmel Highway and Zion Canyon Road
intersect. There is parking for cars at this junction. This is the only trail
that allows bikes and animals on their leash. This is the trail to be on if you
have small children if they are in a stroller, walking or riding a bike. There
is a narrow dirt path off of the Pa'rus Trail that goes to the Zion Human History
Museum where there are restrooms.
It will take about an hour-and-a-half
to walk the 3.5 mile round-trip trail. This trail is in full sun with very little
shade along the way. There are about three bridges to cross that go over the river
and one bridge where you go under the road which is near Canyon Junction.
Kelly's thoughts - I ran on this trail four
times during our stay, so obviously I enjoyed it. The trail is 3.5 miles but I
got in extra because I started from Watchman Campground which is a 1/2 mile from
the trailhead. There were never many people on the trail in the evening, unfortunate
for them. The quietness and crossing the bridges were my favorite part of this
trail.
